PE Curriculum Intent Statement
At Bottesford Junior School our key intentions are to provide all our pupils with the tools to live a physically active lifestyle, whilst having an understanding as to the undeniable benefits to regular physical activity
We aim to provide a broad curriculum which is taught by class teachers and specialist PE staff which gives all pupils an opportunity to experience a wide variety of physical activities, during school time and with an extra-curricular timetable.
Curriculum Overview
Our school follows a Primary Steps in PE scheme of work which is in line with KS2 government requirements. This can be seen above. This ensures that all pupils are exposed to a broad and balanced curriculum throughout their time in KS2. In KS2 at Bottesford Junior School pupils are given the opportunity to apply and develop a broader range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways and to link them to make actions and sequences of movement. They are given the opportunity to enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other whilst developing an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success. Each child at Bottesford Junior School is subject to two hours of Physical Education a week. One hour of this taught by an in-school Physical Education specialist and the other is taught by the class teacher. Our school has seven sport ambassadors that assist the Sport and Learning Mentor in allowing children to refine the skills they have learnt in Physical Education lessons when they participate in various organised sports on the bottom playground at both break times and lunchtimes.
Our whole school leader for PE is Mr Smith
