Welcome to Year 5!

In Autumn 1 our topic will be Ancient Egypt.  As a year group we will be having a workshop in school on the Tuesday 8th October. This will give the pupils an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience of handling Ancient Egyptian artefacts and learning more about everyday life.

In other subjects...

Literacy - Writing of mystery stories, grammar- identifying and using different sentence structures.

Maths - Place Value - rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100,1000, comparing and ordering numbers, negative numbers and Roman numerals

Science- Forces and Space

Art - colour mixing, drawing, ,making cartouches and masks

RE - Expressions of Faith



Dates for PE are Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday 18th September we will also be starting our swimming lessons which will be held at Riddings Pool. The children will have a wonderful opportunity of undertaking an intense course. They will take place twice a week, every Wednesday and Friday for five weeks.


Gardening Club - Throughout the term, children will also get the chance to take part in Gardening club.



Times table and spelling tests will take place on a Friday. Reading records will also be checked on a Friday with the expectation that pupils to have their reading diaries signed on a least two separate occasions.

 All tests can be found in the children’s homework books. Optional homework on Ancient Egypt can also be found in homework books.
